Timing is Everything, Be Grateful for Delays

timing is everything.

Timing Is Everything

Don’t ever fret about time.

(This happened in June 2013, but still relatable to life.)

That June day brought some reality to when it is your time to go.

Hubby and I were off to get a printer that afternoon. Got an unwanted phone call that delayed having lunch by about 2 minutes. Then after lunch I changed clothes before we headed out.

On the road there was a bit of slow traffic and for some reason it was not very upsetting. As we were headed down the road we maneuvered over to the outside lane with the intentions of turning. I said “not yet” as this was the wrong road to turn on.

We could have got to our destination via Paseo Padre Parkway and the street name popped into my head after I had said “not yet”.

We continued on to the usual way we would go and we crossed across Paseo Padre Pkwy and about a half mile down the road we could hear sirens.

As we waited at the light, up the hill came an ambulance and from the other direction a police car. They were both headed in the direction we had just come from.

When the light changed and we were able to proceed I was sure I heard other sirens, but never seen any more emergency vehicles, and soon we were out of earshot.

We were in the store a while and finally made our purchase.

Going home

Heading back in the same direction as we came. I could see 2 helicopters hovering overhead. I thought may be there was an accident on the freeway that was close by. As we got closer there was another helicopter that appeared.

As we approached Paseo Padre we discovered that the south bound lane was blocked passed the intersection and down the block I could see numerous police cars.

What was the emergency?

What happened was a driver going south bound on Paseo Padre was going about 90 miles an hour (should have been 35 miles). He lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree. The back of the car was tore up.

The child in the back seat still strapped to the car seat was ejected and died. The driver was also ejected and the woman in the front seat was trapped inside. They had to cut the car to get her out and she was in critical condition. Here is the link to the accident.

How to look at delays

We thought about this after finding out what happened. Our delay in leaving may have actually saved our lives. But who really knows, it was just not our time to go.

He had to have been speeding going across that intersection. Did he go with a light or did he go against the light? If he had gone against the light, would have we been in that intersection?

Why would he be so angry to be driving so recklessly? I say angry, because I cannot see any other reason to risk the lives of people in your car. (Of course anger is not a reason, it is a reaction to rage.) A school is only a half a block from this area. What if kids had been crossing the road?

Uncertainty what life brings

But this brings me to timing and life. We can never be certain why things don’t go as planned. May be it is wiser for us just to accept life’s delays and setbacks.

Are we being kept out of harms way? Instead of being disappointed with the troubles we might be having, may be it would be better to embrace them and whisper a “thank you”.

Are there times you feel things are going against your plans? Do you ever have a time when you realize that when things were not going your way, that it was actually a blessing?

(The lady in the accident also died from her injuries.)
